One point not addressed is that of types of houses a heat pump is appropriate for. A large detached or semi with garden area would seem to fit the bill, but how about terraced housing and apartments?
Almost any property can be fitted with a heat pump, it's about choosing the right one. For smaller properties and apartments, Air 2 Air would be far more suitable for space heating as there is not the need for buffer vessels, though you would also need to consider hot water if switching from a combi boiler.
